About

Doyun Gu

Final-year electrical and electronic engineering at the University of Manchester. Circuit design, embedded systems, and power electronics are what I actually spend the hours on, and simulation of power networks is the research that grew out of them. I write here about the companies building the hardware those networks run on. When a post takes a position, the position goes on the record the same day.

Timeline
2022

University of Manchester

BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

2024

Aston Martin, ADAS

Placement year. Designed a custom STM32F board bridging vehicle sensors for Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centring.

2025

Final year, dynamic phasors

Dynamic-phasor simulation of power networks with Dr Gus Zhang. The work became DPSpice.

How the record is kept

A call is a position, not an opinion. It carries a direction, an entry date, and an entry price, and it is written into the registry the day it is taken rather than reconstructed afterwards. Open calls are marked at the last close, so their number is provisional. Closed calls are marked at the exit and never re-marked, which means a realised loss stays a loss even when the ticker later recovers.

A losing position and a broken thesis are different failures. A position can lose money while the reasoning still holds, and a thesis can stop being true while the position is still in profit. Only the second one demands an exit on its own, and calls in that state are marked THESIS BROKEN and left on the record with their final return attached.

Nothing is deleted, backdated, or quietly dropped because it went badly. A record that keeps only its winners is not a record, and the losing calls are the only reason the winning ones mean anything. The whole book is at /stocks.
